The Backgammon playbook

Take a moment with Backgammon before moving to another game. Bear off all fifteen pieces before the opponent. Keep the game area visible while you use its controls. Check the rule that explains your first action. Use the example below to understand a decision.

Local two players; no doubling cube, stakes or remote matching.

Practice with a purpose

Compare the worked example with your own position. Use the reasoning, not an answer copied from a different board. Notice the feedback after each input.

The purpose of your moves

Bear off all fifteen pieces before the opponent. Keep that objective in view throughout the round. Start with a deliberate move.

A walkthrough of the rules

  1. Roll and use the maximum legal number of dice; doubles give four moves.
  2. Enter barred pieces first.
  3. Points with at least two enemies are blocked; a lone enemy is hit.
  4. Bear off only after all pieces reach home.

Your inputs

Click or tap a piece and destination; use the turn indicator and legal-move feedback. On a smaller screen, keep the active part of the board within view. A new-round button replaces the current round.

See how the rules apply

When only one die can be used and either is individually playable, use the larger die. Apply the same reasoning to the position in your own round. Take a moment to compare.

Keep this in mind

An oversized bear-off requires no piece farther from the exit. A different version of the game may use a different rule. Read one step at a time and try it on the playing area. Match the instruction to the control you use.
